Winter in Tsirang

Arriving in Tsirang during the late weeks of July, I was unprepared for the chill that would later envelop the region. The initial humidity, accompanied by relentless sunshine, evoked vivid memories of my study days in Dhaka—days marked by sweltering heat interspersed with sudden rain showers. Yet, Tsirang, with its summer blooms and verdant grasslands reminiscent of the Swiss Alps, presented a striking contrast to the urban clamor of Dhaka. This place, steeped in beauty and communal warmth, offered a new chapter vastly different from my past experiences.

Winter in Tsirang unveiled a different facet of life here. My colleagues, with their penchant for humor that treads the line between audacious and risqué, often find laughter in the least expected places. Despite their seemingly irreverent jokes, the camaraderie we share is a treasure, breathing life and laughter into even the coldest days.

The routine of my mornings has evolved into a ritual of simplicity and reflection. Sunlight filtering through the curtains disrupts my slumber, inviting the day's start with a warm cup of green tea still nestled in bed. The day progresses with mundane yet comforting routines, leading up to the moment I lace up my shoes and step out to embrace the world anew.

The journey to work is a scenic exploration, with the local avian life offering a lively spectacle against the backdrop of Tsirang’s natural beauty. Each winding turn and casual encounter with passing vehicles, some offering lifts with smiles that range from perfunctory to genuinely kind, reinforces my choice to walk. This daily pilgrimage is not just a commute but a commitment to health and an immersion in the local tapestry.

Entering the hospital, the morning bustle is palpable. After navigating the reception queue and settling into my chamber, the stark cold prompts the use of an old rod heater, a humble concession to warmth that starkly reminds me of the European Central Heating system's luxury. The day unfolds with the rhythm of routine procedures, each interaction with cold water a reminder of the day’s persistent chill.

In Tsirang, luxury is redefined by necessity and adaptation. The electric rod, though far from the comforts of advanced heating systems, stands as a testament to resilience and the small comforts that punctuate our days. Here, amidst the laughter of colleagues and the beauty of the landscape, life unfolds in layers of complexity, warmth, and shared humanity.
