About me

I am Tshewang Gyeltshen. I was brought up in a village called Khamdang, under Trashi Yangtse District; Bhutan. Being born in a very big family, I was confronted with so many difficulties, most of which I had overcome. I was happiest when my parents admitted me in school buying me a pair of new shoes and the school uniform. However climbing up a stiff mountainous slope for two and half hours before getting to school had been physically challenging for 6 year old me. But sayings are true, time really do fly. In 1999, I got into boarding school. Having to live a life without parent was most difficult of all. Making it worse I lost my mom the same year. This threatened my school education and I had to work every winter providing manual labor to the Department of Roads to sustain myself and my schooling. I was determined to complete my study at any cost. I am glad now as I look back that I knew Education would define my life. I am also among the few youths in Bhutan to be awarded the title of Golden Youth Award. An Award given to only outstanding youths of Bhutan, an initiative of the Youth Development Fund.
